Reaktor is an art centre and curator&artist-in-residence platform focused on contemporary art and culture, established in 2017 in Bratislava, Slovakia. It is based in Creative and cultural centre Nová Cvernovka, the emerging cultural point in the city suburb. All our activities are predominantly tied to the premises of the cultural center in the former chemical school, which is operated by the Cvernovka Foundation. The Cvernovka Foundation was created in order to preserve and amplify the human, cultural and creative potential which formed in the space of a former thread factory, commonly known as Cvernovka (thread = “cverna”). Since its inception it has become a prominent cultural and creative hub in Bratislava that housed dozens of artistic studios – most of the original studios are now relocated to a former chemical school in suburbs of Bratislava. With relocation its nature shifted from a vivid, but loosely organized studio cluster to a community-oriented creative center that encompass all fields of creative industry as well as providing services to general public comprising music and film festivals, talk shows, exhibitions etc. The foundation’s overall strategy is to implement social entrepreneurship to help and accelerate careers of young creative professionals whose work will contribute to the improvement of community and society as a whole.
The Reaktor residency program in Nova Cvernovka is supported by Slovak Art Council / Fond na podporu umenia.
